I purchased this nailer/stapler for a project and didn’t want to spend too much as I doubt I would use it much in the future plus it does both nails and staples. I have rheumatoid arthritis so a manual one would be quite painful on the old hands. Silverline tools are a bit like marmite to some people but I like to keep an open mind. I do have a few Silverline tools that have been/are good value and a couple that haven’t. My background is in production engineering as a toolmaker so I do have a little knowledge of good and bad manufacturing.

 It has a soft grip handle to absorb vibration and good grip. The manual has enough info in it as long as your eyes are good enough to read the very small print. The video shows what I used it for and I must have used several 100’s of staples and quite a few nails or pins would be a better word. This work was carried out pretty much non stop and not once did I have a jam with pins or staples.

 Almost every one star review on Amazon had nothing to do with actual tool, my bug bear with Amazon Reviews, but it got 75% 5 stars which is excellent by Amazon standards, I had none of problems mentioned but I do know how to use tools correctly. I would certainly recommend this tool as excellent value for money for the home workshop on jobs such as mine shown in video.

Quality/Value Ratio.

First impressions are that it is actually quite well made, all pressed metal parts are nicely finished with a powder coating and plastic moulding's are precise. The tool has a good weight which helps with accuracy of positioning.

I think that this tool is excellent value for money

Ease of Use

The actual tool is very easy and straight forward to use. You will need an airline extension, see below, from compressor and if away from workshop an easily moved compressor and of course then an electrical extension lead to power the compressor. I use the Silverline 324178 24 ltr compressor, for portability and a GMC 50 ltr in workshop. Nails and staples easy to load, please read manual. Exhaust is adjustable to deflect air away from you when using. Air tools require an oiler/air filter between tool and compressor but if don’t have use the oil supplied with it, couple of drops now and then during use. Keep the magazine clean to avoid jams.

It comes with a 3 year guarantee but you must  register online within 30 days of purchase at https://www.silverlinetools.com/ and look for register your tool. Keep original purchase receipt and certificate. There are terms and conditions.

Use from Box

Can be used from box after you have fitted one of the two 1/4” BSP air connectors supplied, ideally use a bit of PTFE tape around thread. A few sample staples and nails do come with it.

Air Hose Reel

I purchased this one from Lidl (Parkside Tools) 3-4 years ago but can’t find anywhere now. It was about £30.00 and such good value. 10 mtrs long up to 10 bar. Hose retracts automatically. Not had a problem with it.
